Defining The Silver Tsunami

Don’t you hate Demographic Pigeonholes? Baby Boomers?  Now Silver Tsunami?  I usually resent being known as a ‘Baby Boomer’.  You know, getting lumped into a huge group of people born allegedly between 1946 and 1964.  That’s a huge spread.  I’m thinking, “How can so many people be expected to think the same and exhibit the same traits and behavior?”   There’s a lot of diversity in those generations, isn’t there?  How can we all be the same?

Maybe, I just don’t like being lumped in with a crowd.  “I’m Special, aren’t I?” (crickets chirping).  Well, the longer I live, the more I admit that I’m about like everybody else.  Now we all are growing older.  We are still the largest single market force in Lawton, OK as well as most of America, according to Wikipedia.  Wikipedia also doesn’t seem to like the term.  They say it gives a sense of approaching doom.

I have always linked it to a loosely quote saying of William Shakespeare in the Play Julius Ceasar:

Brutus:
There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.

Strain or Salvation

Although it is feared that Baby Boomers may put an unsustainable burden on our healthcare system and Social Security System.  However, another exciting fact emerges.  These folks have typically gotten to this older stage in a fairly economically stable.  Especially older business owners. Especially in Lawton, OK.  Most people think of them as, typically,  having a decent amount of disposable income to use.

It’s a great group of people to serve through your business.  I would about go as far as to say that they are a great demographic to serve for about any business you have.

I think most business owners with a strong online presence can bank well by not ignoring this demographic.  It’s one of my personal favorites to build websites for in Lawton, OK.
